New fairing rules for TT 2016

Unread post by norman »

It seems that the TT rules have completely dropped the rules regarding covering the rear wheel by the seat, so they can be like F1 LCRs. I have seen passengers accidentally get their arms dragged under the seat.
Also the wording for covering the outside of the sidecar wheel arch has gone, allowing open access to the sidecar wheel by your own passengers hands, or a passenger on other outfit when two are side by side.
Surely this is a safety issue.

I remember Mick Frith I think it was at Assen, fair wrecked his arm getting it caught up on the back wheel before getting spat out. The covered rear wheel is a very good idea.

How quickly accidents with very serious consequences are forgotten or ignored, ( I can think of three)
I wonder what the TT insurers will make of this rule change when they are met with a potentially huge claim resulting from this.

The 2016 TT regs also allow the overall width to increase by 300mm, whilst keeping the track dimensions as they are in ACU regs.

Probably to accommodate all the already illegal fairings. (How many ever fitted under that frame that's hanging up in the scrutineering bay at the grandstand?)

You could be right there Phil. It will no doubt be about 3m long and 2m wide AND 2m tall to maximise advertising area. ££££££££££££ Then they will restrict engines to 50cc to ensure the crowds have time to read the adverts on the sides ;)
The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight.

But they, while their companions slept, were toiling upwards in the night.

John

Your the man you need to get working soon on an electric one with a lolly stick in the back wheel its only a matter of time you know

I am sure the wider rule must have been made by some one with a fast narrow one

A battery powered outfit. Could easily do 3 laps with a massive battery , in place of the passenger. The battery wouldnt need feeding for the fortnight  .

Geoff, the thought of replacing the passenger with a huge battery is a great idea ! But who would we shout at and blame when things are going wrong ?
