Sidecar TT 2014, and newcomer weekends.

Unread post by Helen Gibson »

First and most importantly... no threat to the 2014 Sidecar TT... not that I expected there would be. Better numbers and quality of entry has been very encouraging... keep it up!

However, some of the behaviour I have heard about is unacceptable, and must not be repeated. It is not on to turn up at any part of the event, drunk and abusive. I would be completely in support of any banning or whatever which might come from that. There's simply no place for that at any event. I can tell you, it reflects very badly on sidecar racing, and is not my idea of how we are... but it is the view others have. NO EXCUSE... STOP IT NOW.

The newcomers weekends will be , as in former years, the first in November and the last in February... we did discuss a much later date, but my previous experience has been that once the racing season starts, it's impossible to get a suitable date. However..what do you all think? I'm happy to change if it seems better, and enough of you are up for it.

The format will be slightly different. On Saturday morning, you will have a couple of laps in a coach, with a couple of mentors. After lunch, teams, or pairs of passengers / drivers (depends if people are there with their partner or not) will go out, with a relevant mentor, in cars driven by a "civilian"... there is a history of hire cars being "trashed", and hire companies are reluctant to be involved, so this may help. I will arrange enough cars and drivers. Experienced drivers and passengers... now's the time to volunteer... there's a free lunch...lol!

This is, I suspect, going to be a lot harder to organise and keep a check on, so please contact me as early as possible to get things underway (with 4 jobs, and other commitments, I'm tearing my hair out thinking about it..haha!)

Accommodation... if you have friends you can stay with.. great... if not, let me know as soon as possible, so I can find you someone. This will also mean you have someone you know here if you need any help at TT time.

There will be a timetable of what's to happen, and a form to fill in... I will email these to you, if you email me at helenbmerry@manx.net. :witch: :cat4

Oh... yes... there won't be any DVDs to hand out, because all the good stuff is now on Youtube... look for John Holden (for drivers), and Andy Winkle (for passengers) to see the specially produced lap. There are also lots of other laps... if the Boddice/Wells one is there, it's still pretty good.
