2 questions for TT Sidecar Teams

Unread post by Paul Phillips »

1) Would you like to have a free practice session on the 'first' Saturday (as in previous years but not 2011)?
2) Would you prefer to race Saturday/Wednesday as is or Saturday/Monday enabling you to leave the Island earlier?

Please come back to me with your thoughts.

Also - please note my recent e-mail for general TT feedback. Appreciate all comments good or bad.

Best wishes

Paul Phillips

Revert back to Saturday & Monday racing definately. If you have a problem in the Saturday race which you cannot rectify by Monday then the chances are you won't sort it out in the paddock. I would assume the Saturday practise session would on the whole be welcomed, as most are in the paddock well before then. It's a peculiar state of affairs, as a lot of riders turn up almost a week before, but then are booked to go home on ferries a few hours after the race is scheduled. The TT won't be held prematurely, but could quite easily be delayed a few hours !!

Come on now Tim,

most teams booked to go back on the Thursay evening boat which allows the race to be run on Thursday if it stays at the same timings as it was to be run on Wednesday.

the problem this year was that the organisers wanted to run us on the Thursday evening shift.
I took the shell off my racing snail thinking it would make him faster.
It just made him more sluggish.

The Saturday & Monday option would certainly help us. Personally I'm not keen on the first Saturday practice but I can see that newcomers needs as much practice time as possible. The amount of time away from work/business is a major factor for us, so anything that can reduce that would be welcome Paul.
So how long have I had these voices in my head, I hear you ask?

Sat practise for sure, but what about those that require a practise between races to iron out problems?

Anybody who is a newcomer who hasnt qualified for the A race misses out on the chance of laps to qualify for the B race! (Martin Hull)

Good point, that would've finished Teampastit's TT.

If there's an additional practise on the Saturday before (instead of the Monday in between) that's still the same number of practise sessions in which to qualify, overall as this year. There was never a session between the Saturday and Monday races in the past, but free testing at Jurby Airfield was available I believe to give motors a shakedown and test modifications.

Another point,if teams ran on saturday and had problems that needed spares for second race you would not have time to get them over

Are we hijacking Paul's questions to the teams (me included in the hijacking)?
Should we leave it to the teams?

think probably myself should step back from this and ask the mods to keep it to 'related posters'

when i raced in 2010 as a newcomer i found that the first saturday was great for the first practice(even if only for a single lap practice)..it helped you as a newcomer get the shock of the circuit out of the way and then left sunday to fix all that wasnt correct before the main practice week....its a long week really if you can get the laps in that is and as for the races , again i found the sat/weds best , even if i never managed the second race due to engine issues, but had enough time between the first race and then the monday practice to get things sorted if needs be....many thanks matt dix

I have to admit i was initially in favour of getting rid of the saturday practice due to less time on the rock .I think that this year was a good gauge to see that teams dont appear to mind as most were still there from thursday or before anyway, to not turn a wheel till monday ,Ill stand to be corrected if they had already booked boats from last year and couldnt change them .However i am now of the opinion that we should go back to how it was saturday practice even sunday possibly   after church of course  dont really mind when the races are as long as theres a practice night in between to iron out any issues .

Have to agree with those that want to go back to Sat practice, for the new teams I think it is essential but we must have a practice between races to give those that need it the chance to qualify for the second race. I offer my views as someone who hopes to compete next year for the first time.
