Re: FIM World Sidecar Championship Pau Arnos sponsored by Marin
Practice one report from Wally
FIM Sidecar World Championship.
Pau-Arnos. France.
The FIM World Sidecar Championship teams are all ready and rearing to go for round three of the championship in “Circuit Pau-Arnos”.
Disappointing news for the French fans! Ted and Vincent Peugeot have pulled out of the running this weekend. They have had engine problems and have no spare now.
Pekka Paivarinta and Adam Christie are setting the pace so far, not far behind is Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau, with the Christie brothers, Sam and Tom third fastest.
I will be a test of fitness and machine reliability this weekend as the temperatures have been in the mid to high 30’s, with it rising to 40 degrees for the end of the weekend.

Re: FIM World Sidecar Championship Pau Arnos sponsored by Marin
Practice two report from Mark Walters
Pau Arnos. Free Practice 2.
“Paivarinta and Christie setting the pace”
The temperature was red hot for free practice two in “Pau-Arnos” up in the high thirties. This was surly going to affect the World Championship teams.
Straight out first was Harry Pain and Kevin Rousseau, they were setting the pace at first. The team are happy with how things are going, they have no machine problems, however driver Payne wants more, whether he can get it we will see in qualifying, they set the second fastest time of 1:21.422, a bit slower than free practice one.
Following them was Tim Reeves and Melanie Farnier, Reeves and Farnier have been having gear change issues, the team have worked on this, they have improved the problem but still have issues, they were happy with how things went today, and improved their time from the morning session, their time was 1:22.410, good for fourth fastest in the session.
The morning pace setter, Pekka Paivarinta and Adam Christie were caught up in traffic and were finding it hard to get a clear track, although it was free practice, the team wanted to find the limits at certain parts of the circuit, and being so hot this would be a good indicator to the team for the races, on their sixth lap they set the fastest time in the session, a 1:21.347. Albeit slower than the morning session the team are happy.
The third fastest team were Sam and Tom Christie, they are happy with how things are going and had no machine problems, they too are finding the limits for the races, and qualifying. They hope the morning qualifying session might improve their time. Again, like a lot of teams they did not improve their time from free practice one, their time was 1:21.871.
Todd Ellis and Emmanuelle Clement slotted into fifth with a time of 1:23.352, a tad slower than the morning session. They are working on chassis set up which is taking longer than the team would like. They will be hoping tomorrow’s qualifying will be good for them.
A great free practice for Corey and Danyon Turner, they improved their time from the morning session, this was a 1:23.571. The team are really happy with this, saying, “to be in front of Schlosser/Krieg, Streuer and Vissenberg is a big step for us” they hope to continue tomorrow in qualifying.
Markus Schlosser and Lucas Krieg were seventh fastest with a time of 1:23.708. They had no machine problems and hope they will get a good qualifying time tomorrow.
Bennie Streuer and Manon Vissenberg were eighth fastest in the session, a bit slower than the morning session, but the team were happy with this, they are happy with how their machine is going with no problems, their time was 1:24.398.
The local team of Paul Leglise and Marjorie Cescutti were ninth fastest in this session; again their time of 1:24.719 was slower than the morning session, but they had made some adjustments to their machine which they were trying out. They did not have any problems.
Rounding off the top ten is Markus Venus and Thomas Hofer, they have been working away steadily getting to know the track, their time of 1:25.790 was slower than the morning session, but they had a shock to the system in the dying stages of the session. All was good with their engine, oil pressure, water temp was all good, but still their engine blew, they are working on this tonight for tomorrows qualifying session.
Qualifying will be at 10.35 local time.

Re: FIM World Sidecar Championship Pau Arnos sponsored by Marin
Qualifying report from Mark Walters
Pau Arnos, Quilifying.
“Payne and Rousseau by a whisker”
Due to a last minute mechanical problem Paul Kirby and Ema Salmon missed out on qualifying, the team were ready to go but they hit a problem. However they will be able to contest the 14 lap race starting at 18.40 local time from the back of the grid.
It was a close fought qualifying session between the eventual pole sitters Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau and Pekka Paivarinta and Adam Christie. The two teams were just so close there was nothing between them. In the end it was Payne and Rousseau who came out on top with a time of 1:19.886 to Paivarinta and Christie’s time of 1:19.983.
Sam and Tom Christie set the third fastest time of 1:20.609. The top three teams are certainly going to have the spectators entertained.
Having said that, the next six teams are all in the 1:21’s, with the temperature raising through the day it will be a hotly contested race.
Early in the qualifying session Claude Vinet and Leane Marsel hit mechanical problems leaving the watching from the side-lines. They will be able to have their machine ready for the race later.
Fourth fastest in qualifying was Markus Schlosser and Lucas Krieg, they set a time of 1:21.455, not far off them was Todd Ellis and Emmanuelle Clement their time was 1:21.481.
A good qualifying session for Bennie Streuer and Manon Vissenberg they set the sixth fastest time of 1:21.730. Tim Reeves and Melanie Farnier were just off Streuer and Vissenberg’s time, they set a 1:21’767. Next up was Paul Leglise and Marjorie Cescutti there time was a 1:21.860.
After a troublesome free practice Manuel Moreau and Alice Roba set the ninth fastest time of 1:21.900. Rounding off the top ten is Corey and Danyon Turner they had a trouble free qualifying, their time was 1:22.042.
The top ten teams are really close hopefully it will be a great race.

Re: FIM World Sidecar Championship Pau Arnos sponsored by Marin
Sprint report from Mark Walters
“Payne and Rousseau master the heat”
The temperature was high, mid-thirties; even the short 14 lap sprint race was going to be a challenge for the sidecar teams.
As the lights went out Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau got the hole shot up into the first corner followed by Pekka Paivarinta and Adam Christie, then Sam and Tom Christie these three were all in line. Next up was Todd Ellis and Emmanuelle Clement on the inside, Markus Schlosser and Lucas Krieg were sandwiched between Ellis and Clement, on the outside of them was a fast charging Tim Reeves and Melanie Farnier. Paul Legalise and Marjorie Cescutti were next up on the inside with Bennie Streuer and Manon Vissenberg next, Markus Venus and Thomas Hofer were next on the outside of Manuel Moreau and Alice Roba. Corey and Danyon Turner were just behind with Kevin Cable and Jann Druel next. Raymond Leijdekkers and Oceane Bataille were next up, Wiggert Kranenberg and Loris Charteau were next in line with Pierre Leguen and Leopold Rouby next. Michael Brillault and Fabrice Deturche next just in front of Claude Vinet and Leane Marsal, Ulric Brillault and Cyril Vinet were next with Paul Kirby and Ema Salmon were at the back.
The first lap had some action, first was Cable and Druel, they had their back tyre come off the rim leaving them spinning off track for a DNF, both Cable and Druel were ok and had to sit and watch the race. Next was Reeves and Farnier, they ran off track after contact with Schlosser and Krieg, this left these two teams falling back down the field. Lap two saw Kirby and Salmon pull out with mechanical problems, pity for them as they had made up good places from starting at the back of the grid.
At the front Paivarinta and Christie were putting pressure onto Payne and Rousseau, but they just did not get the opening they wanted. The Christie brothers Sam and Tom were keeping a close look at the two in front ready to pick up the pieces if anything happened.
Ellis and Clement were lying in fourth trying to make ground on the three in front but this was proving hard as they were having bother getting grip from the rear.
Leglise and Cescutti were in battle with Streuer and Vissenberg with the Turner brothers in the mix too, they were right with Streuer and Vissenberg, Moreau and Roba were not too far off the three in front either.
Reeves and Farnier were on the charge by now, they re-joined the race in last place they had a lot of work to do but they were up for it, they were picking off teams at any opportunity they could, but when up to Schlosser and Krieg this slowed them as passing was harder. Eventually they did get bye and set about catching the Turner brothers, Moreau, Roba who were putting pressure on the Turner Brothers, Streuer and Vissenberg who had been passed by Leglise and Cescutti. With Reeves and Farnier passed Schlosser and Krieg this was to pull along Schlosser and Krieg with them and they caught and passed the Turner brothers.
Further down the field there were some rear old battles going on, Brillault and Deturche were batteling with Brillault and Vinet at the back, while in front of them Kranenberg and Charteau, Leidekkers and Oceane, Vinet and marsal, Leguen and Rouby were all fighting it out for placings.
By the end of the race it was Payne and Rousseau who took the win from Paivarinta and Christie, Payne had made a good gap on Paivarinta, too much for him to catch. Payne and Rousseau had the fastest lap of the race too a time of 1:20.105.
The Christie brothers finished in third place, they too could not make any inroads to the two teams out in front, but they were happy.
Ellis and Clement finished fourth and again a good distance back from the teams in front, they suffered from lack of grip on the rear wheel most of the race.
Leglise and Cescutti held off Streuer and Vissenberg for fifth place they were happy with this. Streuer and Vissenberg were also happy with their sixth place in front of Moreau and Roba, who were also very happy with their seventh place.
Reeves and Farnier fought hard throughout the race and they took eighth place, it was just too much of a gap for them up to the three teams in front. Schlosser and Krieg took ninth behind Reeves and Farnier, they were disappointed with their result.
The Turner Brothers were a little disappointed with their tenth place as they were up in sixth at one point of the race.
Venus and Hofer took eleventh place; they felt that they could have done better happy none the less.
Kranenburg/Charteau, Leijdekkers/Bataille, Vinet, Marsal, Leguen/ Rouby, Brillault/Deturche, Brillault/ Vinet, took twelfth through to seventeenth place respectfully.
Tomorrow there are big changes to the event programme.
