Dick Hawes
Dick Hawes
At the request of Pam, I write with the sad news that Dick Hawes died this morning (Sunday 6th October 2019).
As those who knew him are aware, Dick had been suffering with serious health issues over the last two years, and had been residing in a care home. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated in the last week, and he was admitted to hospital four days ago, and lost his fight for life ultimately with multiple organ failure.
It is Pam's wishes that there will be a small, private funeral service, for family and close friends only.
Dick has been missed in the racing paddocks this last two years, and today's events will come as a sadness to many. He will be fondly remembered for many years to come for his achievements in the sport, his generosity and humility, not to mention his sense of humour!
R.I.P. Dick

Re: Dick Hawes
Today, I have not only lost my first sidecar driver in classic racing. Firstly, I have lost a good friend I have since I am about 5 or 6 years old.
With him, I've learnt a lot, too much to be said over here. But most of all, I had fun, laugh, great evening and great racing.
I feel devastated this evening but I know he will always be with me in all the paddocks I will go in the future.

Life is too short, enjoy every moment.

Very sad to hear about Dicks passing. Had many happy nights in Belgium paddocks sharing a few beers and many jokes with Dick. My condolences to Pam.
