Sidecar TT missing chassis/engine
Hi everyone
As part of a massive project (which is near completion) i am trying to accurately record the full details of all winners and podium finishers at the TT since 1907. This includes full names and machines details, something that has proved difficult for some of the early years.
Whilst the solos have proved easier the sidecars have taken much more time. From around 1980 onwards i have the full chassis and engine details for all the podium finishers, Ireson Yamaha, LCR Suzuki, DMR Honda etc etc.
All that’s incomplete is those listed below. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
Missing engines:
1982 Dennis Bingham - Padgett
1986 Warwick Newman - Ireson
1994 Dave Molyneux - DMR
1995 Dave Molyneux - DMR
1996 Dave Molyneux - DMR
1997 Roy Hanks - Beale Ireson NHR
1997 Rob Fisher - Express Baker
1999 Tom Hanks - Windle
2002 Rob Fisher - LMS
2003 Nick Crowe - Ireson
2003 Greg Lambert - Molyneux
Missing chassis

1985 Dennis Bingham - Yamaha
1987 Dennis Bingham - Yamaha
1989 Dennis Brown - Yamaha
1994 Mick Boddice - Castrol Honda
1995 Mick Boddice - Castrol Honda

I copied this onto FB and we are getting there with it already.
Once I get the laptop open I'll edit a copy of this so we can see what is left to fill in

Yes sadly the TT database does not give fully complete information, hence my project.

Re: Sidecar TT missing chassis/engine
Could anyone confirm the chassis for the Bingham's. I assume Padgett's were simply the sponsor?

Re: Sidecar TT missing chassis/engine
I think you have a massive problem to list all the chassis as most of the programme entries were the sponsors and not the actual chassis manufacturer. In the early days the sitters would have been the original machine (e.g. Norton, Matchless, Vincent etc.) with a sidecar chassis by Watsonian or Steib etc. When kneelers evolved they were originally cut down versions of the original bike, and there were a lot of home built chassis by the individual drivers or their mechanics etc. In the late fifties and early sixties chassis were manufactured and sold by people like Owen Greenwood, RGM etc. and later Fiddaman, Windrick (later just Windle), Ireson and so on and more recently Dave Molyneux. Lots of the German outfits used a Busch chassis. Our outfit which won the 1968 750cc sidecar TT was actually built by Terry Vinicombe himself but I bet you have it down as a Kirby BSA, Tom Kirby being the sponsor. After the fitting of the front hydraulic disc brake (the first outfit to have one) it was entered at many events as a Kirby Metisse (Rickman having manufactured the disc hub). I hope I got all this right, no doubt someone will tell me if I haven't.adam10185 wrote:Could anyone confirm the chassis for the Bingham's. I assume Padgett's were simply the sponsor?

1992 Geoff Bell – Yamaha - he was on a Jacobs chassis. Family have confirmed this.

I just cut and pasted it from original the list above as I know some of the Bell family are on facebook with me.
I'll double check with Phil, as it was him who replied.
