Andy Thomas one of the new sidecar crews to the CRMC (ex modern sidecar racer) has been working hard to come up with a solution, more info to follow but it will involve crews having to commit to quantities of tyres to ensure a commercially viable batch can be produced.
That would be great Andy but sounds like a long way off before we get our hands on some new ones, I would think most crews would commit as they have no other option, speaking to other crews at the weekend and none knew what they where going to do.
My front tyre took some stick at the weekend is now worn out thanks to Gerard's! I have a second hand one I can use for the time being not the best option but better than none.
From the southern hemisphere here... and only running a humble unfaired pre 63 but wondered if anyone had tried the Heidenau K29, they're the right size 16 x 3.5 but only rated to 150kph. I was thinking of getting a set given the lack of dunlops on the market.
I´m running Heidenau Tyres on my 18"-Bigwheeler Triumph with success ! But heared from our 16"- outfit drivers, that the 16"- Heidenau wear out quickly. But there´s no other solution as well here in Germany, til Dunlop´s are back again.

I enquired directly with Heidenau and their response was:
"thank you for the pleasant request and we highly appreciate your message.
The 3.50-16 K29 is a special designed sidecar tire for a 250cc bike.
It would definitely be of interest to see it on a BSA but I’m sure the tire performance (width and stability)
is not comparable to your previous tire (Assume you used Dunlop before)."
I Might still try one on the unbraked sidecar wheel (which is not going to take much weight) and see how it copes but doesnt solve the bigger problem. By the time we heard down here that the dunlops were going out of stock they were all long gone from the suppliers. Building a set of 18 or 19" wheels for it doesnt really appeal
Given the K28 and K29 are both P rated (although the K28 for greater weight) its worth a shot, will just need to buy it from ebay.
mainly the money but also the time and effort.
If I change two wheels then the sidecar also needs doing and that in turn means changing the sidecar mudguard and reconfiguring the space for that wheel, the fork brace and brake arms on the forks also won't fit so would need re-engineering and it'll alter the trail on my tele's unless we modify the sliders leading axle... I'd rather just keep it on the 16's which it was built for.
I'll look at trialling some of those Heidenau k29's and see how they wear.
Avon are going to produce some moulds and offer tyres for sometime next season, I believe. Slightly different tread pattern - less blocks, so more grip and longer life presumably?! We`ll see! I understand Dunlop will resume production, if a large enough - and paid up front - order is secured, but not for a while, in any case. I can`t imagine the moulds will go AWOL, anyway. It`s all vogue in racing - maybe everyone shouldn`t have jumped on the 16" bandwagon?!

Nope, he's looking for one tyre. Not offering one.
Sad news here in Germany. Dunlop thinking to produce new 16" racetires not earlier than 2018. Heidenau and Metzeler are thinking about going back in producing 16" K29 or Block C with racing rubbers. But nothing´s for sure until now.

Wait and see.
