Better to change the ratio but will use 5% extra power

The Hogg brothers raced thier BM in the early days of the F2 class, 1983 ish???. They also ran Krauser 4 valve heads.

Helmut Lünnemann showed me some photos from the mid 60's club racing in Germany with the diff bolted to the gearbox and chain drive.
In the 60’s most BMW bikes in Germany were on the road, so diffs were hard to find.
It was easier and worked well for those guys with the chair on the right, they just put a sprocket directly onto the wheel spline on the diff.

Chain drive conversions like this were done shortly after WW11 when bevel box's were difficult to find and expensive. much cheaper to change sprockets than b/b's for gearing. they are currently about£800 each to buy s/hand and then re-furbish.
