Dont think sidecars are part of the plan Bruce but it looked great. The coverage was first class, the right blend of riders past and present and the bikes. Made the TT look a bit bland though.

Re: tonight itv4 (9pm?)
Shame it was all about poncing about in 60s/70's costumes and looking at old bikes (not talking about them in any detail, just here's an old bike) not about racing. Am I the only one who has been to bike rallies and spent hours talking about bikes, ridden in rideouts with old bikes, done the whole deal and when they say it's about TT racing want to see racing? There were some amazing machines there but all I saw was people saying how great the atmosphere was, not seeing the bikes in detail. They had the Britten there, a beautiful piece of engineering and some wonderful old TZs, not a look at them in any detail.
If it was called "the festival of motorcycling for people who haven't seen a motorcycle before" I would've known what to expect and could've ignored it not wasted an evening waiting to watch some racing.
I rode in a bike club where we were into bikes and wanted to see them, I raced for a while too so it's not one way or the other, but there was neither. There was no racing coverage apart from getting names wrong and no detail on the bikes.
Maybe I'm more into racing and bikes than I like to admit.
Still, there's always kite flying for the site next

+1 Steve, especially compared to the brilliant UGP coverage the previous evening. It was a bit like the old Judith Chalmers "Wish You Were Here" programe!steve-e wrote:Shame it was all about poncing about in 60s/70's costumes and looking at old bikes (not talking about them in any detail, just here's an old bike) not about racing. What an absolute feckin' pile of steaming crap
Wasted two hours that I could have used catching up on sleep, watching paint dry, placing a tin bucket over my head and beating it with a hammer or improving my mind whilst indoor cross-country running.
'67 Senior race re-run - WTF was that all about? Didn't get to hear the bikes for a start ... How can something be rerun which is impossible to duplicate without one of the riders, Ago's chain did not break and it was over only one lap. Re-run never, reaches for Trade Descriptions Act
When the original corporate greed, back-slapping fest was originally announced I had grave doubts, sadly there have been more than confirmed. Please may we have our MGP back now?

Re: tonight itv4 (9pm?)
I was looking forward to it but the wonder of the modern age ,digital TV which can`t cope with weather the first hour and a bit was a pixelated screen got the rest ,yes bland ,Parrish talking &%$£, and as for Fred Walmsleys 7R breaking the 100mph lap, come on Fred how much of it was 1962 the problem is that like the Talmag Trial years ago, Bikers Classic at Spa these once great events for ordinary riders get taken over by moneyed posers and lots of old has beens,as you say Bob can we have the Manx back.

I have been asking the question about the 1967 re-run. I don't get it at all. No-one can tell me either. I'm wondering why now too, it's not like it's an anniversary of it??
Anyway, I hear rumours of a proposed classic sidecar race too and less road closure time for the actual Manx GRand Prix

Re: tonight itv4 (9pm?)
Classic chairs at the MGP/Classic TT? That should cause a more than a few eligibility arguments methinks
Classic outfits are probably the best prepared now that they have ever been but, assuming 're-runs' in the traditional format of three consecutive laps, reliability issues may be a concern. They could of course run over three races of one lap each ...
Might even persuade Roly out again on a genuine TT winning bike of the period
Mustn't say any more or I'll either be in trouble or moderated

Re: tonight itv4 (9pm?)
My moan Bruce is that the MGP is being subsumed by this new monster, reducing track time, paddock space, most likely leading to its demise ...

Re: tonight itv4 (9pm?)
Mine was mainly with the programming, most of it nothing to do with racing.. which might have been fine but they just kept interviewing the same people again and again - and showing old bikes.. which would have been fine but they didn't really show the bikes, just showed you that they were there then as you got near enough to work out what it was moved onto something else.
As an advert to get people to the ClassicTT I think it was good, it will probably make people want to come and look at old bikes, and it showed the atmosphere. BUT I was there for all that and personally wanted to see more coverage of the racing and maybe some indepth looking at the bikes that were there with some experts explaining what they were and what they were about. That was all glossed over for another shot of John McG looking superb in his 60's costume.. great though it was the effect wears off after 2 hours.
It wasn't just me, there's a thread on iomtt.com forum saying exactly the same thing, I popped over there to see if I was being unduly harsh but it would seem some others there agree with me/us.
Some, same as you Bruce are happy to see bikes at all on the TV, and if you weren't there it does give you an idea of what the ClassicTT part was about.
