my father walter hodgson of shildon died while racing on chair for ray bell a sand racing in druridge bay. my mother jean had a shop at byerley rd shildon joined onto locomotive pub. Mum and matty bell got together and opened motor bike shop. i used to go to all the meets with ray and matty. first outfit was a bmw rensport matty was friends with he germans rolf steinhousen and a champ called siggy? then matty bought the konig 680. it was so quick, but it was great or lousy..no in between. I don think ray liked the tz yamaha. i know ray and mac hobson respected each other bu i dont think they were friends. i liked gordon russell and then got o know mich france (or is it french?) When mac died ray nearly quit racing.as i was only a kid then ray was like a hero. yet so quiet,allways smiling and joking. I used to sit on the chair when ray tested the outfits over the road from the shop. When mum died i had o get away. i moved to Australia. I went back and saw matty but 5 month later he died. I have missed looking at pics of ray on the bikes. i would apreciate any pice with ray on them. he used to take me on the back of his vincent black shadow. we also walked rena his doberman dog a lot. friends in shildon say Ray allways sits on a bench in town and drives around in a 3 wheeler?
