GSXR Oil Cooler takeoff/sandwich plate
GSXR Oil Cooler takeoff/sandwich plate
Anyone recommend/suggest a supplier of a oil cooler sandwich plate for GSXR 600 K7, though I believe the filter fits 600, 750 & 1000s from about 97 onwards so presume sandwich plate would also - thread size is M20x1 (I think)

Dave if you mean taking an oilcooler feed from the intercooler ,dont. You will definatley loose oil pressure. Take the feed for an oilcooler from the ends of the crank as on the 1000 motors.

Geoff, on the 600 you can't take it from one end of the main oil gallery and back into the other end because there is no divider in the gallery, there is the same pressure at each end and there will be no flow.
Even on the 1000 the flow through the oil cooler isn't as good as it should be as the divider has a bleed hole and this cuts down the flow through the cooler.
I don't think a sandwich plate under the filter will be a problem, it seems to work OK on my Honda.

I took the shell off my racing snail thinking it would make him faster.
It just made him more sluggish.

try mocal uk, they will give you two options, either a take off plate from the standard oil heat exchanger, or a sandwich option between the filter and case. Well thats for a Honda anyway im assuming the same rules apply

Re: GSXR Oil Cooler takeoff/sandwich plate
We had trouble with Steve Kershaws 600 Kieth , The oil light (with a 20psi switch ) was costantly flashing on with an oil cooler taken off the intercooler. They ran it with only the intercooler after it blew up with no problems. Our Ian told Steve he would have bother doing it that way as hed had trouble in the past with Yamaha motors loosing oil pressure. Ian still runs the standard set up with no problems .If you are running a cooler off the intercooler keep the pipes short.

Re: GSXR Oil Cooler takeoff/sandwich plate
I have never run an oil cooler from under the intercooler, I run mine from under the filter and I know mine runs at a good pressure all the time 'cos I've got it logged, but that is on a Honda.

I was taking from said points at the TT and was logging in and out directly at the cooler aswell as sump temp logging and was getting 25 degrees drop from top to bottom of oil cooler so im guessing there must be a bit of flow Keith

to be fair dean, you dont need flow to get temp drop! one doesn't prove the other!

As dean said get a baker adapter instead of your water/ oil heat exchanger. Well designed race proven. My logging speaks volumes.
Oh and get his sump on aswell
We broke something, I think it was traction….........
