Newcomer weekends...

Unread post by Helen Gibson »

Well, it's that time again. The TT and Southern are past, the MGP newcomers will soon be charging down Bray Hill for the first time, and I am planning the next round of Newcomer weekends.
In some ways calling them that is a bit of a misnomer, as I am very happy to have experienced riders come for the extra laps and the refresher. Anyone is welcome even when there is not an organised weekend on, but I prefer newcomers to attend at least one of them first.
Newcomer weekends comprise:
Friday night... meet up for a drink and a chat and introductions (some people miss this and come early Saturday morning)
Saturday morning 10am... meet at Grandstand/ Manor pub or other suitable location. Meet the mentors... experienced TT drivers and passengers who will accompany you in the minibus tour of the course. As many stops as you wish to look at corners etc.
Lunchtime... as much chicken soup, tea, coffee, and, if you're good, pud, as you can manage, and short sessions from scrutineers and marshals.
After lunch... out in the minibus again, or in individual cars with mentors..lap, lap, lap...
Evening... meet in the Manor to watch onboards, discuss the days work, ask questions, meet more TT competitors.
Sunday... open to your suggestions on the weekend. We can do more onboards, with comments from mentors, more questions etc...or just go out and lap, lap, lap!
Accommodation is provided by friends, cars are found, mentors selected and introduced (who will probably keep in touch and be there for you at TT time). Everything is provided free, except your travel, and I can sometimes get you a good deal on that through our friends at the Steam Packet. Can't help with flights at the moment, but I am going to try to get some help with costs for the travel for newcomers this year, :magic but experienced people will not be able to access that (if I get it!!)
Following your Newcomer weekend, you will be very welcome to come back as often as you want and can afford, on the same terms....free! My house is sidecar central!
SOUTHERN100 :notworthy:
This year I will also be promoting the Southern, and offering the same help for that. If you are across for a TT weekend, it will be simple to add a bit about the S100, and some laps...
For more information and to suggest dates which might suit you... PM me or email helenbmerryat manx.net.

PS... smelly solos welcome to contact me for info on help available for them for MGP/TT etc, and happy to accomodate and introduce to equally smelly solo mentors [wub.gif] !

Oh, one last thing... no obligation to do the races if you decide it's not for you, but, please, no "free holiday" merchants... this is paid for entirely by me and some of my equally skint friends, so genuine wannabe TT/MGP/Southern competitors, please! (Partners welcome, by the way)

OK... had a few responses by PM... how about the first one on 5/6 November. With a bit of luck we won't have snowstorms this time!
If you are interested in this please get in touch asap, so I can get on with organisation, and also see if I can get some funding for you.

Our problem is having weekends at random times. I would like to make it just 2, so I can access support. I will be talking to the requisite people and let's see what happens. :D

If that includes air-fare from Canada then count me in ;)

Somewhat kidding. Probably won't be in a position to attempt the TT for 2 or 3 years or so.
But if powers that be would like me to start gathering detailed info and learning the course this year...

Perhaps not a flight across... yet, anyway... but I can send you some on-board dvds if you like!
