After collecting my copy of this years TT Programme/race guide from WH Smiths I see Paul Phillips has pointed out that the usual ACU noise restrictions do not apply to racing machines on the mountain circuit . Yee Haaaaaaaaa,,,,

I was just wondering if any one is likely to run un-silenced in our beloved class ?

PS, this rule does not apply to Superstock machines which are really going to sound dull and boring by comparison.

Is this so we know what class they are? All the smelly classes look the same now!

To create a difference why not all Superstock the Production class

This is going to be the Big Production bikes with RED No plates and White numbers. ( Second race on Monday June 6th )

Not sure many will bother running unsilenced to be honest. When we went to the pre-TT last year all bikes were invited to run on open pipes, but because everything is set up to within a fag paper of precision on a dyno then most are not interested in removing the silencers in case of a loss of performance etc. While I would sooner hear race bikes (classics in particular) howling like banshees, I know most will just leave their bikes as they are on the short circuits.

I wonder if I am in a minority of one on this. I find no pleasure in unnecessarily loud motorcycles. The sound of the Honda Six being revved to 19.000 rpm seems to be enjoyed by many whereas to me it's a painful racket. I wonder how many of us on this forum have suffered premature hearing loss as a result of hanging around noisy racing tracks.
Don't get me wrong, I like the sound of a motorbike in good form but not to the point where I suffer permanent and irreversible damage to my hearing. We all make jokes about deafness but it really isn't funny.

True though, deafness is no joke and not accepted as a disabilty by lots of people. I have been partially deaf most of my life and wear a hearing aid, it doesn't stop me making fun of it though but that is just my warped sense of humour

I must admit my 12yo son has remembered his first visit to see the Moto GP at Donington and the noise that was made on that day........

Any thing that will entice new blood towards our sport has to be a good thing.....

Back in 91 ,I raced Sam Hamiltons 1100 Suzuki, with Sams son George in the chair at a couple of Knockhill meetings. It was totaly unsilenced and was a real problem trying to concentrate. Mind you it was a long Baker with the pipe ending at the front. I doubt if an unsilenced exhaust would make the same power as a modern system without a fair bit of Dyno work. They would sound nice though and would probably help keep the wild life away.
