A few helpful hints and a warning or two!

If you are arriving early or have specific wishes regarding who you want to be parked next to (or NOT ), please get in touch with Chris Heyes, who will be managing the paddock. If you contact him and sort things out BEFORE you arrive, it will make his life easier, and your wishes achievable.

There are strict rules about who you bring with you into the paddock to stay. These are usually a bit relaxed, BUT, if you bring in people who then party to the discomfort of others, you risk being thrown out of the paddock, and even, in extreme cases, the TT.

Remember the TT Paddock is home to ALL the competitors, and is not a party campsite. You may not be racing the next day, or have a young family, but the neighbours may. NO loud music or drunken partying after 11pm, PLEASE!

RUBBISH. If you have black bags, please put them in the skips and big green bins, otherwise you risk longtails (we don't use that other word...) or the Manx gulls at 5am, dragging rubbish about and screeching. The responsibility for your rubbish is yours, not security or anyone else. There are cleaners on site but they have enough to do without doing yours too!

Remember at all times, that you are representing sidecar racing, and when you are sprawling drunk outside Bushy's or swearing in the street, that's the image the public will take away with them. We want to see the centenary of sidecar racing at the TT in 2023... so show them our best side!

For some reason I too thought that 2012 was the centenary for sidecar races, Michael must have talked me into believing it, but the following extracts are taken from the iomtt.com site. Helen wins ........this time

The 1911 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy races took place for the first time over the "Snaefell Mountain Course". The Auto Cycle Union (ACU), organisers of the race, announced an extension to the course with the reintroduction of the Mountain Course setting a four lap (150mile) Junior course and a five lap (189 mile) race for the Senior race. By now crowds were accommodated in Grandstands to watch the American bike manufacturer Indian take the first three places.

TT 1923
Despite the objections of the manufacturers, a sidecar class was introduced in 1923 and proved an instant hit with enthusiasts.
Sidecars were a popular mode of transport and the factories felt that racing them around the Mountain Circuit was not the ideal way to promote their products, but 14 outfits lined up for the start of the three-lap race. The manufacturers' worries proved to be unfounded, with the favourites, solo star Freddie Dixon and his passenger Walter Perry, comfortably winning an accident-free race with their special 'banking' outfit at an incredible average of 53.15 mph.
