Sidecar World Cup 2026: Something is going on in the background

Starting next season, the World Motorcycle Federation FIM will act as promoter of the Sidecar World Championship. In addition, we have worked hard to ensure that the participant fields are well filled again in the future.

While the teams are preparing for the last round of the Sidecar World Championship at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, negotiations are already underway in the background on the organisation of the coming year. After the exit of Motor Presse Stuttgart, the World Federation for Motorcycle Raccing, the "Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme" FIM, will act as promoter of the series.

According to reports, the scene insiders Michael Breitenbach (Pagid-Bremssportbeeläge) and Eckart Rösinger, the mastermind of the International Sidecar Trophy, will take care of the interests of the sidecar teams on site in the future. "An important building block to keep the teams on their own are the costs," the Rösinger knows from his own experience. "For the time being, it's about throwing away the ballast of the past."

"If you look at the national championships in Great Britain, France and the Netherlands and the international sidecar trophies, the starting fields are well filled. Our effort is to bring the teams to the World Cup. However, most are not in bed on roses, it's about every euro, so we try to drastically reduce the registration fee, from the current 800 to about 550 euros. Our goal is 20 participants per weekend.”

In addition to the expenses for the tires – at the first event in Assen, the regulations were already changed to the effect that there is only one qualifying – live streaming was identified as one of the cost drivers. "Although this was extremely well done, it cost a lot and brought comparatively little," says Rösinger, who was able to achieve considerable success both as a passenger and as a sidecar pilot.

The calendar could look like the last few years. The Alpe Adria International Championship and the British Superbike Championship are planned. In addition, the mandatory event in Portugal and in Most there will be an appearance at the International German Championship. There are also endes to organise a race in the UK.
