Dear all,
Thanks to the goodwill of many people, we have a World Sidecar Championship this year.
However, there is much debate about tyres within the championship, following a number of ‘meetings’ last year at events – all with mixed messages coming back.
So – everyone is OK with Hoosier as the single make tyre supplier for 2024 following Avon coming out of sidecar tyre production, but we have left some freedom to use any tyres for the first round in Le Mans, to ensure that there are no snags with supply, logistics etc., for the first round. As we are part of a very high profile World Endurance Event with very tight schedules, we cannot have any dramas / issues there.
There has also been some ideas about limiting the number of tyres used per round, for obvious cost reasons. We propose that we have a formal meeting with all the competitors about this at Le Mans to find the right solution. Tyre control will involve tyre marking / stickers and an additional person to control it. We also need to debate if the tyre restriction should be new tyres (only from the on site supplier) for the entire event or just for Qualifying Practice and Races, allowing old (single make) tyres to be used in free practice (as is custom and practice). Or maybe other solutions….?
We hope this is useful in discussing the tyre solution, as there are no easy answers to suit everyone. Our aim is a ‘happy’ sidecar paddock to maintain sidecar racing at World level for the long term.
Best regards
