Beginners tyre advice

Just a quick one really, I’m going to be running in the open class at Darley this year, it’s my first year and I’m wondering whether it’s really worth laying out 2k on three sets of Avon slicks, wets and inters or go down the treaded tyre route to learn the trade first. If so do you have any recommendations for treaded tyres ? The wheels I have are for 6.2/20/13 fronts and chair and 8.2/20/13 rear. It’s an F2 Windle with a couple of 14 stoners on it!

From my point of view.
Forgett the inters. If you have 3 sets of wheels, have two set slicks, a good one and the old one, and a set of wets.
Have fun.

Don't bother with inters.Wets for rear and front will get you away in the wet-sidecar wheel will follow the other 2.
Full set of slicks for the dry, dont have to be brand new, there are a few people who sell off part worn tyres, which could help you reduce your costs. We usually put a worn front on our sidecar when we buy a new front.
Hope the trailer was OK.

Never tried "treaded" tires but I did notice a detectable difference when I switched from slicks & rains designed for cars to sidecar specific slicks & rains. The sidecar was more planted and handled more predictably at the edge of traction (and beyond). Thus I would recommend going with sidecar specific tires. Used tires will have less grip than new (scrubbed in) tires but I found I could run at about 80-95 percent on the used tires. Only needed new tires if I was trying to run at the front. So go out and have fun on used hand me down tires. Learn how to push them to their limits. Once you have some experience with that increase your limits with some new tires. :-)
