Posted here as it's a bit early to go on the front yet
Assen Cathedral of Speed will ring to Hyundai F1 Sidecars
After a long summer break, the British F1 Sidecar Championship returns to The Netherlands and the world famous Assen circuit, to resume battle in the 2015 series over the weekend of 18-20th September. It will be a particularly crowded grid, as once again the ranks will be swelled by a strong national contingent of Dutch Championship regulars.
The AOS Be Wiser Kawasaki duo of Ricky Stevens and Ryan Charlwood are on course to lift their first British title, and will be looking to continue the rich vein of form which has seen them take victory in eight of the thirteen races so far. Second in the title chase are Andy Peach and Charlie Richardson (L&W Kawasaki) with a seventy-two point deficit, and just two victories to their names. Next up, comes the Express Tyres pairing of Steve Kershaw and Rob Wilson, ahead of an in-form Ben Holland/Lee Watson (Finning Cat Kawasaki) and former champion Roger Lovelock/Aki Alto who was forced to sit out three races at Thruxton.
These names are where the action is expected to be, except that returning from a successful world series, are Tim Reeves/Greg Cluze (Team E-aide Motorsport Kawasaki) and their great rivals Ben and Tom Birchall, who will be campaigning a 600cc Honda powered LCR. This unexpected development appears to be in line with the thinking of the FIM, as to the way forward for the 2016 World Championship.
With two drama-packed races on the schedule, expect Assen to deliver the usual three-wheeled fireworks, as the Continental crews strive to get the better of the British visitors.
With just six races to decide the title, rest assured the racing will be of the usual frenetic standard. Eurosport will once again offer live coverage, with the dedicated Motors TV and MAV USA TV highlights package transmitted the following week.
Standings – Stevens/Charlwood 260, Peach/Richardson 187.5, Kershaw/Wilson 148.5, Holland/Watson 110, Lovelock/Aalto 107, Brown/Cain 102.5, Horspole/Connell 88, Guy/Evanson 70.5, Drowne/Pilmoor-Brady 69.
