Graham uses a Honda eu20i and we use them at work. Not cheap (over a grand for 2kw) but very quiet and small for the power.
The ec Honda range are a lot more affordable but the open frame industrial type.
Screwfix has a suitcase type a lot cheaper than Honda that work ok. http://m.screwfix.com/p/impax-imdy2500l ... 100?_bck=1
