Aintree round (3) Abandonded.

Well that was one of the most eventful days at the Merseyside circuit for quite some time......In the first race Mark Berry/ and passenger were gaining confidence with each and every lap and then simply ran out of road on the exit of country corner,,,,,, Resulting in them sliding sideways on the grass, passenger was dispatched early on and survived the ordeal. Mark was sticking with the machine till centrifugal forces finally ejected him on to the track side.
We noticed they were running both a forward and rear facing Go Pro type cameras which could at least get them £250 if they send the footage to YBF,,,
A lap or so later I was just thinking to my self (Eh up) Dave Holden is noticeably lapping at a decent pace even though he is running a replacement engine and passenger ( Ray Burns), so with interest I start to follow their progress at all visible points during the remaining laps ( our vantage point is on the exit of Country Corner ) anyway I was admiring Ray's neat exit from Country corner and his silky movements to prepare for the entry to Village ( which is a deceptive corner with a positive camber on the inside line which will catapult you along the Canal Straight to Beechers Bend.) The wide line for me is not always the fastest option, anyway to cut a long story Dave's next lap was another flyer but the entry to Village I thought was way off his best entry,,,,,,,,,,needless to say they did not come out of the other side of the trees blocking our view.
Within seconds the Marshal's had the situation under control, the guys were checked out, Dave managed to convince the medics he was OK But Ray was suffering from concussion and was held for observation. The bike was battered as you would expect after barrel rolling between the National Fences
I was later getting a bollocking off the safety officer for wanting to take photographs of the stricken machine. (Images to Follow)
Can I just say my man of the meeting would have gone to Steve Ramsden for his hard but fair riding style , infact he was yet another potential TT entrant who was unable to race on the IOM due to a lack of experienced/licenced passengers...
And Finally just before the rain sets in the Sidecar Trophy race has been reduced to 5 laps due to earlier stoppages throughout the day, Steve Ramsden, Alan Founds started to make some head way from the chasing pack of Alan Molyneuex, A resurgent Kev Thornton mixing it with the Fi Guys........
All was going fine till the mid point when Alan Founds gained a 1.5second lead from (My) MOM Steve Ramsden then all hell broke loose on the Railway Straight, I recall stream of smoke what I thought was a blow engine from the leading crews, it turned out to be tyre smoke from Alan Molyneuex 750 Suzuki which steered them to the inside of the circuit into a small clump of young trees surrounding one of the holes of the 9 hole course inside the club cicuit.
Passenger Andy Hailwood is reported to be Shocked but otherwise uninjured, unlike Alan Molyneux who sustained 2 broken legs 2 ribs and a shoulder blade which will be reet in a few weeks time, unlike his machine which may be beyond repair.........
The meeting was soon after abandoned due to the lack of replacement ambulances.........
Regards
