Had an accident where the back wheel took a large impact & the rear upright collapsed/chain adjuster bar bent & the passenger floor is torn. Further investigation when we got it back to the pits, we found the tub is bent/torn just in front of the brake assembly. What sort of rivets & glue are used to assemble the tubs? Anyone done this sort of job before?

I don't think there are many F1 drivers who haven't done that job
Sorry to hear that Duncan, you and the better half of the team both OK ? Any other damage ?

I'm sure someone will be along to tell you exactly what glue and rivets, Webbo probably has buckets of them somewhere

Speak to gordon shand he replaced a main tub not long ago or craig chaplaw replaced his front end at the track last year they will know what spec of glue and rivits ect

Talked with Mick Webster last night & he's going to sort us out with bits & info on how to fix it.
Just a couple of bruises & a bit of stiffness today, but we're fine. Dunno about the wallet though!

Seems ironic how you can replace a section of an f1 tub in the pits but you cannot weld a small crack in a steel chassis anymore

eerrr not really brian???, two different things, no welding needed to sort the tub out on a lcr/windle/rcn etc just a drill and a rivit gun! I do agree that not bein able to weld in a paddock is health and safety stupidity as usal and if H & S got there way no one would get out of bed incase they fell and hurt them bloody selves.

I think you've missed the other thread Martin.. the TT regs mention no welding gear in the paddock - F2, not rivetted tubs That's what Brian was referring to.

Fully aware of the mechanics of building a tub v welding Martin. My point was you can if you want rebuild a f1 but your pretty well stuffed if you find a crack in your f2 as you have no choice but to pack up and go home.
I think it will allow some racers to re evaluate a crack on a chassis as to keep racing and weld when back home.

Health and safety wouldnt have liked us at the TT one year. We made a large tank fitted behind the front seats of our van . It carried 200 gallons of diesel after this but initialy it carried all the fuel Ian and me needed for the fourtnight. We were parked next to Vince Biggs who lit a barby right next to where the tank was. I had to ask Vince to move the barby as the paddock was at risk. Looking back what we did was a bit daft but things have gotten out of hand now. Its not as if welding is a rare occurance at the TT, is it?

IAN ENGLISH i think now is the time you tell the story of qualifying at Assen only to find something broken on the bike about 1 1/2 hrs before the race. Luckily the bike stands were quite robust lol

My bad, makes sense now

I hope our officials don't follow yours in this stupidity. I needed welding at nearly every round of the Australian Championship last year. Frame showing its age, and the exhaust, and the rider.
