Plan is to rebuild it with a Honda SOHC. Any chassis photos showing linkages / brakes / body mounting would please greatly appreciated.

Hi

Had a similar one bought in 79, originally a front exit that we converted to rear exit, which was just after he change to the mini rubber on the rear suspension to the coil/damper system, the arm from the top was boxed into the front of the swinging arm, which collapsed on us one race (this one looks to be a better design). Rear hub shattered in another race that took threat of legal action to get another. I can't see the rear wheel but our came with a wider rear, unfortunately this caused it not to handle to well on right handers, to get the off-set right we changed to the same wheel size as the front and sidecar, which cured the handling problem. The rear brake linkage can be improved, which I did when I added a re-spaced regular caliper onto the vent disc to operate from the handle bar and linked the four pot to the foot pedal.

hope that is of some help

John

When I'm back home will find the pics we have of Dad's Fiddeman, think we did have a thread on here with quite a few pics of the brochure/price list when new as well.
Ronno's probably the man to search for that and see if it's still on here. If not and we have an idea of when it was I have back ups of the forum going back a while if they'll install on my big laptop at home.

That could well be the Fiddaman that I bought new in 1980, I only rode it once. Dave Wells got it and rode it for a while, the red and black paintwork looks just as he had it. Tim still has the original brochures I got before buying the bike.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I did find a thread here with some photos, and bookmarked it for reference. Also stopped by the shop to re-check the S/N given some of the comments. After cleaning things up some more the correct S/N is - MGF RS 816003.

I'm pretty sure the paint you see in the photos was the first colours, below that is gel coat. Lang if you could scan the brochures and email them to me that would would be great.

Thanks Tim, that's a great help. Tells me what's been cut off (all the body mounts :( ). Also gives me an idea how the rear brake was setup, although the linkage doesn't show up well in the pictures.

Hello Brian,

What motor are you planning to put in and when do you think it might be race ready?

Chris

Hi Chris - I have x2 SOHC 750 engines sitting around, so I figured I'd use one of those. Likely install a 915 kit, and what ever else the budget allows, and run it in P3. It's this winters project, but not sure when / if it will see the track next year (lots to do :( ). Also I'm having to much fun with the P2 16". :D :D

Just joined the SRA forum as well.

Hello Brian,

my Fiddaman looks very similar to yours. Can you tell me, how your brake system is set up? In my case there were the original AP calipers at rear and chair and two of them on one front disc. Looking at the pictures here, you can see a 4-piston caliper on the front wheel. I would like to know, how it was fitted at the front fork and which master cylinder actuates which caliper.
Next question: do you know, where to get new brake discs? Are these custom made by Fiddaman or any kind of car discs?

Cheers
Dirk
