Hi everybody!! Just got an F2 with Thundercat engine after playing with 2 strokes for a long time in solo and sidecars. I'm looking for advice on all things Thundercat and 4 stroke. What do you think is the best oil to run and should I stick to the book on the quantity to put in. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Dave

Howard used to run "Mobil 1" motorcycle race oil in his Thundercat (and prior to that, FZR) motors without any problems. If you're running the standard sump, then 3 litres is the quantity that you want to use.

we have a standard 600 thundercat yet with a modified shortened sump. At present and knowing no difference we run it as ova full - is this right or wrong?

we ran 3.5 litres with filter change...we also used a mistral sump baffel with a std sump...we also always ran semi 10/40 and never had an issue in 4 years .....

1/4 of a litre above the top of the window and 15/50 oil. Anyone using 10/40 is taking a chance. We used 15/50 years ago with the 600 yams and were back on it now with the 1000 Suzukis. 95% of the F1 outfits with a wet sump are using 15/50 oil. All the oil companies make a good oil nowadays but we have always used Motul.

Thanks for the advice. The sump is standard but with baffles fitted to the bottom of the engine. Do any of you know if it matters if a fuel pump is fitted vertically rather than horizontal. At the moment this one is horizontal, just lies on the under tray and the only place I can find for it would mean fixing it vertically. But at least it would be fixed rather than floating about!!
