If you have the right software it's quite simple Matt, but you also need to be able to use it, and get the settings right. What makes the one above good is Dave has got the settings right, not too strong and got the background taken out well.
It's an art in itself, well done!

Thanks for the praise Steve, all of the work to achieve the sketch effect was done using Photoshop actions.
Basically how it works is you play around with a image using various filters and layers ect at the same time you
set photoshop to record your actions, the idea being that you can then open a fresh image and photoshop will
automatically sort it for you by replaying the same recording over the fresh image.

The trick is to get your actions correct to start with, the sidecar sketch has had some ninety odd individual actions
and filters applied.

Don't be put off by this, you can download photoshop actions in most cases free
do a search on google. Sit back and watch your image transform before your eyes.

Personally I prefer to record my own actions, though I am guilty of using other authors work and fine tuning to suit.

Photoshop is not really a paint program, there are loads of others better suited and again some are free.
But if you race, you simply won't have time to mess about with them.

Dave.

We've talked before about photoshop and my lack of patience  90 actions.. I get bored after about 10.
Strange thing is that I work in autocad a lot so should be used to working in layers - they're an invaluable thing in autocad - but in photoshop always forget to use them to their full extent.
