Does anyone run an electric water pump? Are they an advantage power wise? Are they reliable?

Jeff

Wal has run one for quite few years now both on R6, GSXR 600 and 1000 with no probs. I liked the one he used with the GSXR as that had a variable speed option which helped warming up and also kept the water circulating after a run.

Hi Jeff, we run one on the LCR only because it has a dry sump and have not had any trouble.

As Toby said in earlier post, we’ve run them for years and never had any problems.

Only my opinion, but personally I think electric water pumps are a ‘must have’ for racing as they control the engine temperature as and when it needs it and not just by engine RPM like a mechanical pump.

BHP is dependant on engine temperature, too high or low and it's gone ! :o

Useful after tracktime to circulate the water after the engine is stopped, eliminating the usual huge temperature rise with its possibly consequences.

So instead of the motor cooking on the start line while some ‘jobsworth’ on the grid decides that somebody on the back row is 6” too far forward or on the wrong side !!!!! The pump can be working flat out while the engine is on tick-over, conversely, on a cold wet race day the pump will run slow/shut down even at full RPM, allowing the motor to have some chance of survival rather than running like a dog at 45deg.

I have some pump information if you need it.

Didn’t think you needed a pump Dick, just pour it straight in from the barrel
