Hi
Does anyone know if the Engines and kits sold over the pond are restricted in any way specifically for US markets and do they have immobilising box's etc ??
and do the K4 sump kits fit straight on the newer models etc say K7 / K8 and do you have to uprate the pressure of the oil return valve as I believe / heard the later bikes have uprated oil pumps?
cheers
D

Some of your questions I can answer.
Regarding the boxes (stock Suzuki units); spark is retarded in first 3 or 4 gears to reduce torque, perhaps same over there.
There is an RPM limit in 6th gear, to limit to 186mph.
The fix for both is a 6800 ohm resistor in gear selector circuit, making computer think engine is in 5th gear.
I haven't worked on K7 K8 motors, but builders here don't make any changes in oil pressure return. The is a change done by some to insure oil always goes through cooler. Not done on my K6

We bought a K7 from the US, complete with the non California ECU, it was reasonably straight forward to get it running with the standard ECU and loom, you do not need the ignition switch although a 100ohm resistor is required at the switch
There was however some tricks to get it to run full power
the clutch switch , bypass we fitted a TIMING Retard eliminator to get around the restricted power in the lower gears, and the most difficult was working out you just can't bypass the sidestand switch ( we have reinstalled it , ziptied in the 'up" position until we can work out what ohm resistor to install in its place)
Its also a good idea to get a dash/dash loom and right switch block
we're using one of Webbo's sumps
once we did all this , on the dyno it put out pretty close to the same figures as a dry sump K5 with what looks like a much better exhaust
