In this area in the 60s there were enough crews to make almost a full grid at most circuits

Dave Ajax & Malcolm Caley (500 Manx)
John Parker (Triumph)
John Simper (Triumph)
Mick Harris (Norton)
Reg Gooch(Triumph)
Alan Butler (Triumph)
Peter Scales (Triumph)
Jim Pinkney (Triumph)
Jack Rook (BSA)
Ted Young (Triumph & Vincent)
Mick Ruocco (Vincent)
Adrian Swindells (Triumph)
Jim Spencely (Triumph)

There were some others too whose names escape me for the mo.

Anyone any info on any of these please?

Just in case anyone mentions me amongst that lot I know where I am and what has happened in the intervening period :lachtot: :lachtot:

Adrian Swindells was part of the Curley Speedequip team set up in the early seventies - they used Norton Atlas engines. One of that team was Barry Lock who emigrated to Canada after we bought the Kirby BSA from him.

Peter Scales went to Holland - did some dragracing and got Ton Pels into the sport.
Pels later build a double-engined Triumph with Puma heads.
Nowadays Ton is director of the Zodiac firm in Holland, Roel Koedam (who bought the Triumph from Ton) is now the official works rider for Zodiac, they are building a very nice dragracer at the moment, with a complete home-made engine.

Cheers
John

p.s. don't know anything further regarding Peter Scales...

Idris,The Brian Ayers i was talking about was always a driver with Dave Wallace as passenger.he packed up racing in 66 or 67. I think you might be talking about Brian Ayers who rode with Dereck Jones (crazy horse). John.

I used to work with a Peter Saville in Thornwood near Epping in the early 70s when i was an apprentice diesel fitter I'm sure he said he raced sidecars, seem to remember him having a deformed left or right hand.

Hello, Steve . . . I had a mate who wanted to take up racing, and managed to team up as sidecar 'passenger' with a character called Jack Rook — who had constructed his own kneeler outfit. The pic. is taken at Brand's Hatch on the notorious Paddock Hill Bend in March 1966.

8 Jack Rook's 650 BSA kneeler outfit with sidecar man Pete Sutton.

Jack agreed that I could go to his home to take some sketches for an illustration of the outfit. It was the first 'proper' tech. illustration I (or anyone else on our college course) had attempted, so it effectively broke through a 'glass ceiling' of sorts, taking us all to the next level of confidence.

9 My tech. illustration of the outfit.

I presume this was the same Jack Rook for whom you were searching. Hope this was helpful.

Regards

Just discovered that my pic. of Jack & Pete to which I referred above was over the account limit . . . shall try again in a while. Regret to learn that Jack Rook died in the '80s.
