Got to disagree with you there Alan, the "back straight" of the prom race was actually the main road in & out of New Brighton
so the road was closed on the morning of the race & re opened after racing.
The prom races were finished because of a solo fatality, going into the top roundabout a female solo competitor clipped another rider who then went off & collided with a lamp post, think this was 1999.
The great Barry Sheene actually raced at New Brighton Prom.
I've got a program from the 1976 race somewhere showing the sidecar grid.
The roundabout on the back straight where you go round it the wrong way as Bob b says, is where I bust my brother in laws scaphoid when we pranged against the kerb  , 1976.
Last time I raced the prom was 1986, good days

The Wartburg bike was powered by an East German made bigger version of the Saab and DKW engine.
It is true about the sidecar family - you can stop racing but you can never, ever leave!

Went for a quick ride out on my bike last night in between the showers. I reckon the route would make a great road race circuit. Obviously the average speed cameras on the A52 would have to be disabled :P
