Got to disagree with you there Alan, the "back straight" of the prom race was actually the main road in & out of New Brighton
so the road was closed on the morning of the race & re opened after racing.
The prom races were finished because of a solo fatality, going into the top roundabout a female solo competitor clipped another rider who then went off & collided with a lamp post, think this was 1999.
The great Barry Sheene actually raced at New Brighton Prom.
I've got a program from the 1976 race somewhere showing the sidecar grid.
The roundabout on the back straight where you go round it the wrong way as Bob b says, is where I bust my brother in laws scaphoid when we pranged against the kerb , 1976.
Last time I raced the prom was 1986, good days

Went for a quick ride out on my bike last night in between the showers. I reckon the route would make a great road race circuit. Obviously the average speed cameras on the A52 would have to be disabled
