I saw this at Cadwell today. This was not the only solo leaking oil in the paddock. I am amazed that bikes like this can go through scrutineering and be allowed to race I know these bikes are old but do they need to leak oil to function

Was someone going to drink it. They leaked oil because they were designed that way. The Japanese must have been like the Cadburys smash men.

sorry but that aint a great advert for an old bike wanting to race , sort your sh1t out and get some undertrays/belly pans with oil abbsorbant in .............. come on , its not rocket science

No it was a BHR meeting

The person who rides the Velocette IS also a SIDECAR passenger in some classic events.

The picture is of a SOLO. And if you have read this whole thread you would have noticed that - The classic sidecar teams under the guidence of the chairman are in the process of making sure all classic sidecars have oil catchment.

Around 50% of the teams already have oil catchment in place and this will increase rapidly this season.

Grant mate, chill It's not an attack of any sort on sidecars there from Winnie.
I do wonder how long that bike had been sat there to drop that much.

What I will say again is that it is brilliant that all sidecar teams of all classes know we have a reputation from the past and are making an effort to put that right. Much more so than solos who are now dropping more than ever each time they go out and if a smelly drops oil it's just an 'accident'. It will take a while for this to filter through to 'social memory' but it will get there eventually.

Steve I think the problem is we are all a bit tetchy about oil as we always get the blame yet it is VERY rarely an outfit to blame. We are ALL very proud of our machines and would like to think that this is obvious in their preperation and appearance.

And on here you are in good company putting stuff in place before there are regs about it is to be commended.

i have read the thread , well done the chairman on his continued effort on oil catchment (and every one else ), lets see the other 50% follow suit and the jobs a good un ,like i said its simples

but not a 100% of the outfits need oil containment ? and also will they need it under the oil cooler and under the dry sump tank if you are going to do it, get the rules oil tight .ho.ho

I've managed to stay out of this so far but how about BMW rear drive units?

Thats a very good question.I guess its how far you want to go,do you include water radiators,and what about hydraulic brake systems?At the end of the day it would be very easy to get carried away.Whats needed is a pratical and commonsense approach,so if it was up to me I personnally would not include BMW final drives,or any of those that I have mentioned above.

Are you sure Den? I know of one passenger that rides a velo and thats definately not his!
