Off topic, but as a small business owner who has imported mainly from Germany since 1995, it's almost certainly made my mind up to retire earlier than I had planned.

I am working in Germany and getting materials (and people) over here from the UK is challenging at the moment
No trees were killed in the sending of this message. However a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Hardly surprising that the paperwork is more than expected, that`s just what you would expect from the temper tantrum childish,petulant a**holes in Brussells who can`t get over that for once England has had the balls to stand up for itself,We`ve only been out 27 days and already the EU held up Scottish lorries for 3 days to examine paperwork and then they had to return because the cargo(fish) had gone off,if the EU want to play hardball then we should do the same,we have been racing classics over there since 92 and have had great times with the continentals and a lot of interesting conversations over beer about just how much some of the Europeans don`t like the EU, hardly surprising when at present our dear neighbours(EU) want to stop us getting the Covid Vaccine that came from Oxford in conjunction with Astra Zenica (Sweden)neither who are in the EU

We have to do paperwork because we are now a third country as far as the EU is concerned. There was an agreement to not have tariffs, but you still have to complete import and export declarations which is where the complexity and cost comes in. I investigated doing these myself, but it is simply not cost effective as you need specialist licensed software to interface with HM governments "CHIEF" system which logs all the data, and it isn't cheap.
Basically instead of me ordering a crate of kit from Germany and the shipping fees being about €100, it is now going to be €100+ (as the couriers have increased their prices), PLUS an extra £70 minimum for a UK customs agent to complete the import declaration, and for what? Nothing but pages and pages of pointless documentation (and an extra £70 cost). It's not the EU who made-up this rule, it's how its done world-wide between two countries who don't have a free trade agreement, (like the one we had until 31st December last year).
That cheeky chappie of the common man Jacob Rees-Mogg and his mates conveniently forgot to mention all this.
