Derek Bayley

Unread post by grasstrackman »

Just to follow on from a couple of recent pictures in the photo sections does anyone know what became of Derek Bayley?
I know he was still having problems after his bad accident at the TT but never heard if he ever fully recovered.
Still on the subject of Derek, seeing the pictures of the Stredor engine, reminded me of his Ricardo engine in his LCR.
I remember at the time hearing it described as a "Z4" but I don't ever recall seeing the engine.
Does anyone know or remember anymore details of it or maybe even have any pictures?
Must remember to stay off the grass

Have a word with Bryan Nixon I think he has kept in touch with Derek and I think they are both still near Folkestone.
Anyhow since 1957

Some sad news to report.Derek's wife,Julie, died last night, after a long battle against Leukemia. It has been a very difficult time for them , as Julie was Derek's carer,as he still has the head injury from the TT accident in 1987.
While Julie was receiving treatment,Derek was,and still is, in a care home near Folkestone.Amongst Julie's concerns, she was worried that Derek would be forgotten,so if anyone wants to pass on cards or messages, now or in the future, feel free to send them via me,I will pass them on.
A special thanks to Roy and team at the ACU Benevolent Fund,Julie received some funds recently, and I know it was of much help.
Funeral details will be posted when available.

Very very sad to read that :( Derek Bayley was one of THE best on 3 wheels without any doubt, always had total admiration for him in the late 70's/early 80's ........... no words to describe what sad news this is :(

This is the charity that Julie wanted any donations to be forwarded to, the Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation.
She felt that some Leukemia charities were better funded than this one that helps younger adults with brain injuries.

Change in the details for any donations , to be collected by the funeral directors, Chittendens

Hi,

I would like to note that on an early video Jock Taylor mentioned that an up and coming rider that he expected to challenge him was Derek. A complement indeed. Wish I had been more involved in those years.

Both will be remembered.

What a GREAT thread for the memories

Just supposing, if there was an engine using a TZ750 Gearbox, Rotax barrels but Crankcases and completed engine designed, developed and manufactured in Sussex , would it be considered to be a British engine :?:
In which case , by scoring a point at Hockenheim in 1986 , it would then be the last British engine to score a point in a World Sidecar GP ;)
