Re: 1985 on the Mountain, bike caught fire

I'm pretty sure Geoff Rushbrook's outfit caught fire in 1984 - it was definitely up on the Mountain.

Re: Southern 100 Arrrgggghhhhhh

Tim's lap of 97.084mph is the 7th fastest lap ever at the Southern - not too shabby for a newcomer!

Re: Some TT stats

Kenny Howles continues to lead the way with the highest amount of racing laps in excess of 100mph, recording no less than 92 between 1985 and 2011. Dave Molyneux moved up to second overall this year, now having a total of 85. The top ten reads as follows: Kenny Howles (1985-2011) = 92 Dave Molyneux ...

Some TT stats

Some 157 crews have now lapped the Mountain Course in excess of 100mph since Dick Greasley/Mick Skeels first achieved the feat in 1977. Four new crews achieved the mark this year, these being David Atkinson/Phil Knapton, Pete Alton/Keith Brotherton, Nigel Mayers/Douglas Chandler and Darryl Rayner/Ma...

Re: Newcomers Trophy

jester - I understand what the rules state, the point I've been trying to make (from my first post) is that there's no consistency in the awarding of the trophy. The names I've listed as winners were as pubished/awarded by the official organisers whether it be 1990, 1995 or 2008!

Re: Newcomers Trophy

I'll have to dig out my old results book to be 100% sure but in the 1970s, certainly from 1974 onwards, the Peter Chapman Trophy was awarded to whoever set the fastest lap of the over 500cc race, and the fastest lap of the second race (when there weren't split capacity races) - the Wal Handley troph...

Re: Newcomers Trophy

The info I've got is just what was in the results books that used to be produced - the back few pages always had a full breakdown of who'd won what. It should be quite a straightforward process really now there's separate trophies for the driver (Peter Chapman Trophy) and passenger (Dave Wells Troph...

Re: Newcomers Trophy

You're classed as a newcomer if you haven't qualified or raced before - Dave had qualified in 2009 so shouldn't have been eligible this time around. However....Carl Fenwick and Keir Pedley practiced and qualified with a lap of 98.786mph in 2010 before Keir fell out the chair at May Hill, yet Carl st...

Newcomers Trophy

Just checking, who got the sidecar newcomers trophy? I thought it was David Atkinson/Phil Knapton but the results show Mark and Lee Saunders.
