After suffering a couple of spins in the opening round of the British F2 Sidecar championship at Croft Team SaS, Giles and Jen Stainton from Upton found they had lost a bit of confidence in their racing and took time out to rediscover their love for the sport.

After a couple of weekends giving taxi rides for the public on the sidecar platform and then taking in a classic meeting at Darley Moor the passion for racing returned and the husband and wife duo travelled to Snetterton in Norfolk to test the outfit and then take part in the two British Championship races where they secured a brace of fifth places in their class.

Giles and Jen Stainton from Upton travelled to Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire for their first race of the new season where they completed race one without mishap but then suffered a couple of spins in the second encounter on Sunday and retired from the race.

Jen commented: “This was our first meeting of the year and it had to be the first round of the FSRA F2 British championship which meant a lot of pressure on us to perform. Also Croft circuit was where we had a pretty bad crash last year so we were also facing our demons which is a bit stressful in the first race of the season.”

Giles and Jen completed the test day on Friday to acclimatise themselves with the circuit prior to qualifying on Saturday but the weather took a turn for the worse and the heavens opened just as the teams went out for qualifying.

Upton sidecar racing husband and wife pairing of Giles and Jen Stainton were at Cadwell at the weekend for their fourth racing weekend in as many weeks where they recorded three top eight results before disaster struck and they were forced to retire when the handlebars snapped on the LCR outfit.

Once qualifying got underway Giles and Jen both realised just how tiring racing every weekend is and it had taken its toll on them as they felt they were not as quick as usual on track.

A week of testing in Val De Vienne in France set F2 Sidecar team Giles and Jen Stainton up for an assault on the Darley Moor championship round last weekend where they scored a fine third and fourth place on Sunday.

Jen said: "We made the decision last season to kick start 2017 with a week at this fantastic circuit in the South of France where teams from across the world gather to test their machines ahead of the new race season.

"With five 20-30 minute sessions each day we managed to run in two engines, learn the track, pick up pace, alter settings on the outfit and build so much as a team."

Giles and Jen Stainton overcame a crash in the first race at Cadwell at the Sidecar Bonanza to come back strong and complete the two races on Sunday in a strong 18th and 13th position.

The annual Sidecar Bonanza attracted over 90 outfits of different types and the grids were split into three different classes. Team SaS were in attendance purely to enjoy the fun and see the season out with good friends and fellow racers.
