    Returning to the scene of quadruple victories earlier in the season, the Santander Salt/Express Tyres Kawasaki duo of Steve Kershaw and Stuart Clark are agonisingly close to their first ever British Championship title.
    With fourteen victories from the seventeen races run so far, their track record is impressive.
    Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire is the scene for round eight next weekend (17-19 August), and is also the scene of a spate of incidents earlier in the year which decimated the field. Several of those crews affected in those crashes have yet to regain financial or physical fitness.
    Needing just thirty-two points to become the first Scottish rider to wrap up the title since Jock Taylor, Kershaw will be full of anticipation ahead of Cadwell. Anywhere on the podium in both races will suffice, and that has to be their game plan.

    Glorious weather blessed the paddock for the entire weekend in Cheshire.


    Due to clashes with the FIM World Championship, and a British F2 round at Mallory Park, the grid was significantly lower than normal. Notable non-starters were Ben and Tom Birchall and John Holden Lee Cain as they headed for the Slovakiaring.
    Brands Hatch winners Peter Founds/Jevan Walmesly opted to defend their F2 title, so were another high-profile crew missing from the line-up.
    Those crews who did make the journey for the one and only race, were rewarded with great racing and a chunky share of the available points.

    Free practice was a good indicator of how things might pan out with the big bikes versus the 600's. One or two 600 crews were trying out the short chassis version ahead of the Isle of Man TT.

    A dramatic opening round at Brands Hatch two weeks ago saw Scots Steve Kershaw and Stuart Clark leave Kent leading the British Sidecar Championship for the first time in their career.
    Their 1000cc Santander Salt Kawasaki was freshly rebuilt after a crash testing in France, and they were still sorting the geometry.
    That however, did not stop them following the Birchall Brothers home in race one, and claiming third behind the Founds brothers Peter and Alan in a wet second outing.
    At Oulton Park for round two, there will be plenty of crews lining up for revenge, so Kershaw and Clark will have their hands full.

    The ultra-fast Thruxton circuit is always a great leveller, and particularly hard on passengers with its never-ending right handed bends. Three races on the programme would put seventy-five points on the table, but as events turned out, things did not go to plan.

    Round Six - Brands Hatch - July 21-23, 2017

    The mid-summer round on the Brands GP circuit was, as expected, drama packed and fiercely contested.

    Practice and qualifying were both sun-kissed, with the track in perfect condition. Tim and Tristan Reeves, the former nursing severe bruising after the well-documented Southern 100 crash the previous weekend, were again in brilliant form on their local circuit. From the word go, at near-lap record pace, they laid down a marker on the Carl Cox Motorsport Kawasaki and then sat back.

    Tim and Tristan Reeves arrive at their home track with maximum points from the ten races so far in this year's Hyundai Heavy Industries British Sidecar Championship. The Carl Cox Motorsport Kawasaki pair have dominated the 2017 series so far, with the most recent victories coming at the Mallory Park Bike Bonanza two weeks ago.
    Defending champions Ricky Stevens and Ryan Charlwood (JG Speedfit Cool Kawasaki) have had mixed fortunes this year, and trail the leaders by one hundred points in second place.

    Gloriously sunny weather prevailed for Saturday qualifying with Tim and Tristan Reeves once again claiming pole.
    It was far from a runaway result this time though, as Steve Kershaw and Stuart Clark came to within two-tenths of denying them the place. Anxious to make up for a disappointing Snetterton, Kershaw had the Express Tyres/Blinkbonny Kawasaki on the stop as he completed more laps than anyone else in his efforts to claim the pole.
    Sensationally, the Birchall brothers, Ben and Tom used the 600 Yamaha to great effect just a further one-tenth back in third.
    Andy Peach/Ken Edwards also pulled off a great result winning the “Battle of the Suzukis” with a stunning fourth ahead of the Stalker Chris Walker/Ashley Hawes (Santander Salt Kawasaki).

    Knockhill delivers top-class action as Kershaw returns in style, and the Reeves boys dominate Round Three

     

    Twenty-six outfits on the 1.3 mile Knockhill circuit was a spectacle to behold with just three seconds covering the top ten in qualifying. Tim and Tristan Reeves on the Carl Cox Motorsport Kawasaki claimed pole at near lap-record speed ahead of Phil Bell/Tony Belsey (Marin Mortorsport Suzuki) and Steve Kershaw/Stuart Clark (Express Tyres/Blinkbonny Quarry Kawasaki).

    Round Two Oulton Park

    Conditions for qualifying were cold and damp, but the Reeves Brothers banged in five quick laps on the Carl Cox Motorsport Kawasaki and then sat back. Chris Walker/Ashley Hawes and the Kershaw/Clark pairing ran at the front until the closing stages, when the reigning champions Stevens/Charlwood put the JG Speedfit Kawasaki into second. Amazingly, in fourth place were the Birchall Brothers with a very rapid 600cc Yamaha LCR just one second off the pole position time.

    The Race

    Late in the day, in gloriously sunny conditions the pack charged into Old Hall Corner with the pole men just edging it ahead of Stevens/Charlwood and a tooth and nail scrap between Walker/Hawes and Kershaw/Clark. The Birchall Brothers were less fortunate and did not make the most of their third row start on their Mitchells of Mansfield Yamaha. They were down in around eight place at the end of lap one with it all to do.

    Here's your Monday update of the Kershaw Racing fund for Stephen Kershaw and Rob Wilson who were involved in a serious accident at Knockhill leaving the passenger Rob with lower body paralysis.
