General Secretary for the ACU and Clerk of the course at the TT Gary Thompson is a smart guy. Following the introduction of age limits in other classes at the Manx, Gary has introduced a forty year old age limit for all newcomers at the Sidecar TT. But it’s not all bad news as Gary explains.

Roy Hanks, with fifty (!!) TTs and ninety seven starts under his belt has to be the foremost authority on the sidecar TT, Roy is also a director of ACU Events Ltd and on this occasion doesn’t agree with Gary. These lads are close friends but sometimes you can’t agree about everything.

  • ADVICE FOLLOWING ENHANCED SECURITY AT PORTS

    iomspc
We are advising passengers to carry identification and check in early for sailings in response to enhanced security measures at UK ports.
The UK terror threat level was yesterday raised to ‘critical’, the highest level, following the Manchester Arena attack on Monday. As a result, some police services are requiring additional security checks at ports, including compulsory identification checks for all passengers and more vehicle searches.
These measures were introduced at Heysham on Wednesday afternoon.

  • BIRCHALL BROTHERS WIN FOURTH TT RACE

    header

After the disappointment of a non finish to Saturday's first sidecar race at the Isle of Man TT festival and a lot of problems during practice Mansfield brothers Ben and Tom Birchall rode a perfect race to take a resounding win in the second encounter on Friday.

Although the LCR Honda let go in the first race the Birchall brothers were delighted to find they had taken the lap record registering 116.798mph on the second lap. Unfortunately the unforgiving 37.73 mile mountain roads course took its toll on the final lap when they were forced to retire at Sulby crossroads.

  • Reeves out of luck in opening Sidecar TT race

     reevesheadersaturday

Tim Reeves will be hoping for better fortune in Friday's second Sidecar race at the Isle of Man TT races having been forced to retire from Saturday's opening encounter on the final lap.

With perfect conditions all week on the island, the F13K Cancer/Klaffi Honda driver had encountered a few problems during practice week none more so than on Tuesday evening when passenger Patrick Farrance caught his backside on the banking on the approach to Laurel Bank and they were forced to stop.

However, although Farrance was bruised, he was otherwise ok and the team regrouped for the remainder of the week and Thursday evening saw them post two 114mph+ laps, both of which were faster than Tim had ever gone before around the Mountain Course. The fastest was 114.83mph which placed them second on the overall practice leaderboard and in a good position going into Saturday's race.

  • Team Shand TT Sidecar Race A

    raceheader

With warm and bright conditions the first of two "Sure sidecar" races got under way.

Gordon and Phil set off down "Bray Hill" all was going well, when the race was red flagged due to an incident at "Bishopscourt"

All sidecar crews returned to pit lane. The race was rescheduled for the full three laps, and the start time was 16.00.

Once again Gordon and Phil set off down "Bray Hill". All was good with the bike, but again fuel mapping was a problem all through the three laps. Gordon just had to get on with the race, nothing was going to change the mapping now. Gordon and Phil were all on their own throughout the race, so it was all down to them where they were going to finish the race.

The Birchalls had a 34s lead when they stopped at Sulby Crossroads on their final lap although they did have the consolation of a new outright lap record of 116.798mph.
