Tim and Tristan Reeves maintained their 100% winning record in the 2017 Hyundai Heavy Industries British Sidecar Championship at Snetterton at the weekend as the Carl Cox Motorsport/Team E-Aide Motorsport pairing swept to another double victory to make it eight wins from eight starts.

The Kent brothers were in scintillating form throughout the three days of action at the Norfolk venue and they signalled their intentions from the off, topping the free practice session on Friday. Later that day, they qualified in pole position for Saturday’s 12 lap race with a time of 1m55.088s which was a staggering 3.2s quicker than anyone else.

The JG Speedfit Kawasaki team will be at Mallory Park at the weekend for fifth round of the Hyundai Heavy Industries British Sidecar Championship.

Following Ricky and Ryan’s success at Snetterton, where they came second in both races, the current British champions will be looking to get their first win of the season. They are currently second in the championship standings behind brothers Tim and Tristan Reeves.

All-female sidecar team Maria Costello and Kirsty Hauxwell will also be heading to Mallory Park fresh from their appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed which attracted over 150,000 visitors.

Maria said: “It’s always an honour to be invited to parade up the hill on Lord March’s country estate. It was also a great opportunity for us to showcase our sidecar outfit, but also sidecar motorsport in general, to a massive audience.”

Heading north of the border next weekend 16-18th June, the British Sidecar Championship brings what could easily be the largest contingent of sidecars seen in recent years at the 1.27 mile Knockhill circuit.

Returning to mainland short circuit duty are several intrepid crews who have just battled the rigours of the Isle of Man TT course with no small degree of success.

Each with a fourth place finish are Alan Founds and Lewis Blackstock. The latter, with his regular passenger Patrick Rosney, earned his silver replica in race two, whilst 600cc Cup leader Alan Founds is reunited with Tom Peters for domestic action having finished fourth in the opening TT with Jake Lowther..
A race one TT fifth for series leader and multiple world champion Tim Reeves could not be bettered as he retired in race two.

A stunning double TT victory for Ben and Tom Birchall will be celebrated in Hungary where they are on World Championship duty, along with John Holden who was twice runner-up in the Island.

Round Two Oulton Park

Conditions for qualifying were cold and damp, but the Reeves Brothers banged in five quick laps on the Carl Cox Motorsport Kawasaki and then sat back. Chris Walker/Ashley Hawes and the Kershaw/Clark pairing ran at the front until the closing stages, when the reigning champions Stevens/Charlwood put the JG Speedfit Kawasaki into second. Amazingly, in fourth place were the Birchall Brothers with a very rapid 600cc Yamaha LCR just one second off the pole position time.

The Race

Late in the day, in gloriously sunny conditions the pack charged into Old Hall Corner with the pole men just edging it ahead of Stevens/Charlwood and a tooth and nail scrap between Walker/Hawes and Kershaw/Clark. The Birchall Brothers were less fortunate and did not make the most of their third row start on their Mitchells of Mansfield Yamaha. They were down in around eight place at the end of lap one with it all to do.

After a fiercely contested opening round on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit in front of a packed grandstand, the Hyundai Heavy Industries British Sidecar Championship arrives at historic Oulton Park for the second encounter and an equally enthusiastic Cheshire crowd. These picturesque surroundings have played host to the greatest sidecar racers in the world over many decades, and the May Bank Holiday Weekend promises to uphold that tradition.

Five times World Champion Tim Reeves, now back with younger brother Tristan, heads the charge as prime challenger for the 2017 crown, and leads the title chase after the opener at Brands Hatch where they landed an emphatic double. British Champions together in 2012, they want it back on their Carl Cox Motorsport Kawasaki.

Maria-and-Kirsty300

Round One Brands Hatch Indy Circuit 14-17 April

A full grid lined up for the season opener, despite the no-shows of Rob Biggs/Ben Ransley through illness, Brian Gray with work commitments, and a contractual issue with Maria Costello's passenger. An immaculate field of predominantly 1000cc outfits and a handful of 600's made a spectacle to behold as qualifying got under way in dry and breezy conditions, with a track temperature of twenty-four degrees.

After what seems to have been a long winter, the wait is over. Next weekend (14-17 April) the Brands Hatch Indy circuit will resonate to the sound of the strongest entry of sidecars in the history of the series. New rules which allow 600cc outfits to compete on level terms with their 1000cc big brothers have proved to be an outstanding success and have attracted unprecedented levels of pre-season registrations.

Further rule changes include a “reverse grid” mechanism which will see the top ten finishers, regardless of capacity, line up for race two in reverse order.
Add to this the fact that the Sunday race will be shown live on Eurosport TV mid-afternoon between the two BSB races, and a maximum number of spectators will therefore witness the action.
