The traditional RKB-F1 awards presentation evening took place at the Bentley Hotel, South Hykeham, near Lincoln last Saturday evening, and a packed function room celebrated the efforts of the 2017 season contestants.

As reported throughout the year, there was plenty of drama in what had truly been a stellar year for many of the crews.
Highlights of this action were captured in a short video and music piece, shown immediately prior to the presentation itself.

To warm up the crowd, celebrity guest Steve “Stavros” Parrish ran his own version of the popular TV game show “Mr and Mrs”, with series organiser Roger Body and his wife Louise prime targets.
Following their hilarious admissions as to how well (or not) they knew each other, racer Rod Robinson and his wife Suzanne took to the floor. Their disclosures were equally amusing, and both couples received rapturous applause for their frankness and accuracy.

On to the main event, and compere Glenn Walsh whipped the crowd into a fury as he revealed one by one, the names of the crews who would take home the silverware. Assisted by yours truly, the trophies were handed over by Steve Parrish.

There could be no mistaking the main recipients. With an unblemished twenty-race victory tally, Tim and Tristan Reeves scooped the 1000cc F1 premier class award, with Tristan also lifting a handsome crystal rose-bowl as passenger of the year.
Runners-up with a hard-fought campaign were Steve Kershaw and Stuart Clark, with out-going Champions Ricky Stevens and Ryan Charlwood claiming third.
A live telephone link-up allowed the room to hear the reaction of the multiple World Champion Reeves, who was away attending the Philip Island Classic event in Australia.

600cc Cup winners by two points from the absent Birchall Brothers Ben and Tom, were Todd Ellis and Charlie Richardson, who also claimed the spectator award as a bonus. This performance in his rookie season was a dream come true for Ellis who surely must now move on to even greater things under the Santander Salt banner.
A creditable third place in their first full season together, were brothers Sam and Adam Christie. This likeable duo who have sidecar racing in their DNA, can feel justly proud of this result.
A special award from Express Tyres, Kershaw and Clark's sponsor, recognised the fantastic recovery from adversity, which, after taking an entire season out, and coming back with such a stunning display of speed and race-craft, was nothing short of astonishing.

“Best in Paddock” award was presented to Team Cable Racing, who once again set the bar for professionalism of appearance and general paddock image and conduct. Kevin Cable was thrilled to collect the award on behalf of his team and passenger Guy Pawsey.

Finally, much to his surprise, the Sportsmanship award, for non-riding contribution to the season, came to the editor of this piece. Apart from the victor's medal at Chris Walker's corporate karting day, this is the first trophy I have won in recent years and is much appreciated.

In his closing address, Roger Body thanked the teams for their support, and took the opportunity to introduce a new name to the paddock. Young Jack Nixon will be campaigning a Santander Salt Moto-star machine through the 2018 season.

The evening was rounded off by a brilliant band which had the floor heaving from the word go. The “Shake-Ups” featured two girl vocalists, and gave a thoroughly good rendition of many popular anthems and classics.
