Sleaford sidecar driver Gary Horspole with Scottish passenger Jimmy Connell were at Brands Hatch at the weekend to contest the two races in round six of the British F1 Sidecar championship where they recorded an eighth and 10th place to their races which move them up to sixth in the rider standings on 80 points.
Because of delays to a solo race the first sidecar race was reduced from 12 laps down to nine and Horspole and Connell began their campaign from a seventh row grid position.
They completed the shortened race in 11th place overall in the mixed grid of F1 and F2 riders but with three F2 outfits finishing ahead who were not eligible for points Horspole and Connell were awarded eighth place and eight championship points.
Starting race two from the sixth row the Lincolnshire/Scottish pair overtook Blackstock/Rosney on the second lap to move up into 11th place. One lap later they overtook Ellis/Richardson and held 10th for a while but they were passed by MacLauren/Hope on lap seven and remained in 11th place for the duration of the race. Once again a rider in the 600 class finished ahead and Horspole and Connell benefitted from them not scoring points in the F1 class and so received the six points on offer for 10th place.
The points accrued from Brands Hatch bring their total to 80 and move them up to sixth place in the rider standings.
The next round is at Thruxton in Hampshire over the weekend of August 4-6 when the team will benefit from having three races to contest.
