Tim Reeves and Gregory Cluze ensured their British Sidecar Championship season ended on a high at the weekend when they took a double victory at the final round held at Brands Hatch. The E-Aide Motorsport/Remse Racing duo took their 11th and 12th race victories but, sadly, just fell short by 11 points of another British Championship title.
That doesn't tell the whole story though as there was never more than half a second between Tim and Gregory, Holland/Watson and championship rivals Ricky Stevens/Ryan Charlwood. Indeed, at the completion of the ten laps, Tim and Gregory's winning margin was just 0.051s over Holland/Watson with Stevens/Charlwood only two tenths of a second further back.
It all meant, Tim and Gregory went into Sunday's final race of the season 29 points adrift of Stevens/Charlwood in the Championship table and this time they grabbed the lead from the outset. By the end of lap two, their lead was close to four seconds and they were able to control the race from there on in, eventually taking the chequered flag from Chris Walker/Ashley Hawes by 5.3s.
However, Stevens/Charlwood took third once more to mean they edged Tim and Gregory out for the British Championship by just 11 points, 397 to 386, the ultimate difference being the Mallory Park round in July when the Anglo-French pairing were denied an entry.
Tim Reeves: "What can I say, I did everything I could this weekend and to end the season with 12 wins is obviously very pleasing but it's equally disappointing to have missed out on the Championship. We knew that we needed Ricky and Ryan to have a DNF in one of the two races to have a chance of adding another British Championship title to our collection but, sadly, it didn't happen and we have to settle for second."
"Overall, we've had a strong season, both on the short circuits and the roads so a massive thank you to the whole team who've been behind us all year long and to all our sponsors especially E-Aide Motorsport, Remse Racing, Metrail, H&S Contractors, Castle Integration, Klaffi Honda, LA Merketing, Fernox, Planet Engineering, Hunts Motorcycles and DFDS Seaways."
