Brands Hatch was the venue for the final round of the British Formula one sidecar championship. The iconic 2.4 mile Grand Prix circuit would see two ten lap races on Saturday 17th October. Braintree's Cable racing team of driver Kevin Cable and his Colchester passenger Harry Payne would be lining up on the grid with former World, British and Isle of Man Champions, and teams from the Netherlands, Germany, and France the grid had a real international feel to it.
Friday's qualifying was held on a damp and greasy track. Kevin and Harry qualifying in a good 23 spot in very difficult conditions. Saturday first race had drama from the start for all the teams.
As they lined up on the grid it started to rain and although the track was damp there would be a problem with tyre choice. The race was declared a wet race and reduced to six laps. Obviously the team made a good choice and finished in 21st place although Kevin said afterwards "the front end was pulling to the right when I was braking for some reason."
The second race saw another solid result for the pair finishing in 19th place and 21st in the overall standings. Speaking later Kevin said "It's been a good season, we have improved at every circuit and our times have got better."
Harry added "I've only had six races on this size of machine and have really enjoyed riding with Kevin."
