Team A.R.C. retained the "Mac Hobson Trophy" for the third consecutive year, at the N.E.M.C.R.C. meeting at Croft on the opening weekend of April, with three F2 wins in a weather-disrupted event.

Teaming up with Lee Crawford was Tony Belsey - having also deputised for Patrick Farrance the fortnight previous, at the Auto 66 Club's season opening event at Cadwell Park. They had taken two class wins and a second place finish, despite enduring a number of mechanical issues - therefore, top of the agenda at Croft was ensuring that these problems had been eradicated.

Situated mid-way between Poitiers and Limoges in central France, the circuit of Val de Vienne proved to be the ideal platform for the first proper test ahead of the 2017 British Sidecar Championship.. Those crews who attended Carlo's Trainingslager found the four days track action invaluable, and gave them a flying start to the new season. As a result, this year's event was even more popular, with a strong British contingent making the trip.

Run as an open test week for solos and sidecars, the entry list was mightily impressive, with virtually all the top crews from across Europe on track. Former World Champions included Tim and Tristan Reeves, the Birchall Brothers and Bennie Streuer/Geert Koerts. Our own British Champions Ricky Stevens and Ryan Charlwood headed the UK line-up of around eighty teams, comprising both 1000cc and 600cc competitors. Several new faces showed up to demonstrate their skills for the first time in anger.

The entry list for the Hyundai British Championship is also at record levels, and clearly the teams at the top of that list understood the importance of track time in France.

A reminder that entries for the Oliver's Mount Spring Cup meeting on the 22nd & 23rd April close tomorrow (Friday 24th March).Entry forms can be downloaded from - HERE - or alternatively contact the office (01723 373000) to make arrangements. There will be four sidecar races each weekend this year (as opposed to the usual three), which was requested by the competitors over the close season - a full sidecar entry would provide justification for this change.

John Surtees has died aged 83.

The only person to be World Champion on 2 and 4 wheels at the highest level and a true ambassador for the sport.

How he was never Knighted is a mystery to me.

Tim Reeves and Klaffi Racing Honda are targeting more sidecar success at the Isle of Man TT Races in June with the former race winner looking to add to his 2013 victory.

The multiple World and British Champion will continue his association with triple TT winner Klaus Klaffenboeck on the roads in 2017 but he has a new passenger, to the Mountain Course at least, with Mark Wilkes taking over from Patrick Farrance.

Have you ever said to yourself “I can do that” when you’ve been watching sidecar racing . . . and then listed the many reasons why you can’t? British Historic Racing is going to give you the opportunity to take a race outfit on to a famous circuit; experienced racers will mentor all drivers/passengers/crews and to add to the flavour of the day you will take a racebike through the scrutineering process.

All this is for free – yes FREE as BHR wants to encourage wannabe racers and current race folk are letting you use their own bikes.
