Jen and Giles Stainton travelled to Anglesey for a round of the Wirral club championship where they rode to a clutch of fourth places in the F2 Sidecar races recently.

Saturday morning was spent familiarising themselves with the circuit layout as they had only been there once before and that was a year ago.

Qualifying saw the husband and wife team from Upton finish the session in seventh place and Jen commented: “Our competition for the weekend was really strong, and surrounded by class teams we were keen to get out and learn as much as we could on the Coastal circuit. We achieved a 1m 24s in qualifying but knew that our gearing wasn't quite right and also felt that we should make some adjustments to tyre pressure and suspension.”

As the first of two races got underway Giles and Jen maintained their position in the mixed grid of riders before picking up pace and fending off the attention of Wade/Gregory to secure fifth place overall - fourth in the F2 class - at the chequered flag achieving a new best lap time of 1m 20s.

In the second race of the day Wade/Gregory got the better of the Lincolnshire duo from start to finish but they had a really enjoyable race chasing as hard as they could. Once again they matched their personal best time set in the first race and again completed the race in fifth place overall, fourth in their class.

Although excited at the prospect of racing on the international circuit on the Sunday they were also keen to continue learning the Coastal circuit as they had been enjoying trying new approaches throughout the day.

After a track walk of the international circuit on Saturday night they went out in practice on Sunday morning keen to try a track that was new to them. Unsure what to expect they returned to the paddock with massive smiles delighted to have qualified fourth with a lap time of 1m 43s.

In race one they got away to a good start ahead of Remnant/Tilley and held them off throughout the race, although Jen never stopped checking to see how close they were! At one point they thought they might get the better of Jackson/Crowe who were just ahead and when they took a detour across the grass they were sure they would take the advantage. But they didn’t expect the pair would recover quite so quickly and come back on the track ahead of them. Giles and Jen had to be content with a fourth place finish with an improved time of 1m 42s.

In the second and final race of the day Giles and Jen had an absolutely brilliant three-way battle with Remnant/Tilley and Shipley/Saidi with positions being exchanged with Shipley throughout. On an exciting final lap they managed to get past Shipley but Remnant deservedly took third place with team SaS securing another fourth position.

Jen said: “We are quite genuinely still buzzing from the weekend as we enjoyed the racing, the track, the club, the weather and the brilliant fellow sidecar teams that were there too.

Thanks to Sid for the fantastic photos as usual and also for your company, thanks Dale and Sharon for coming and supporting us and thanks also to our wonderful sponsors and supporters who are always there for us.”
