Mansfield brothers Ben and Tom Birchall took in the two races of round five of the British 600cc Sidecar championship at the weekend where they qualified in third place overall in the mixed grid of F1 and F2 outfits and took the win in both races in the 600cc class and second and third place overall.

The Mitchells of Mansfield supported brothers were running second fastest through the early stages of qualifying but dropped to third to start the first race from a second row grid position.

Ben said: “There was a lot of traffic out there and I was unable to get a clean lap in so pulled in to the pits for a while. We went back out and managed to get one fast lap in to finish third overall and fastest in the 600 class.”

Lee Crawford and Patrick Farrance continued their run of podium-finishing form at Croft Circuit on the 27th and 28th August in the penultimate round of the A.C.U. / F.S.R.A. British F2 Sidecar Championship, but had to settle for the runners up position in both encounters, as newly-crowned champions Pete Founds / Jevan Walmsley took a double win.

Subculture Racing was beset by mechanical problems and a crash in practice. Photo courtesy Rising Sun RacingPilot John Wood and co-pilot Matt Blank took the win and eked out enough speed to take the record for the sidecar class last week at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Wet conditions during the beginning of the race saw most motorcycle classes produce winning times well off their respective class records, but with sidecars running near midday most of the course had dried by the sun. This allowed the California duo to post an official time of 11:26.664 time, just 0.343 seconds inside the previous record.

The mist came rolling in from the sea; this led to a long delay to the second "Sure Sidecar" race on the Isle of Man. Eventfully the mist lifted and it was all go for "Team Shand Racing"

Gordon and Phil had a good day testing in Jurby, before this three lap race. Adjustments were made and Gordon and Phil felt that the "Shand Racing Chassis" was a lot better. Also for two weeks the pair had been having trouble with fuel mapping, the test in Jurby seemed to have improved this too.

Anyone need a ferry to IoM this week?
From Gordon Shand -

It is with deep regret I have just been told that Colin died on Saturdy afternoon. He had been unwell for some time.

As some of you will know, he built many fine outfits, his workmanship was second to none. He started his racing career on solos in the 1960s and switched to sidecars in the early 1970s. He built his first outfit for himself, and soon orders from other competitors started to come in. His machines achived many top results, including IOM TT wins.

On seeing one of Colins outfits Dieter Busch remarked that it was one of the best built bikes he had ever seen ( praise indeed).

With sincere condolence to Iris. Rest in peace Colin.

Brian Alflatt is looking for a passenger for TT as his passenger has pulled out through injury.

The next Wednesday test day at Mallory Park is Wednesday 27th April, in the afternoon.

In order to host a sidecar session, they require a minimum of five outfits, booked in advance. At present, there is one. Click read more for more details thank you!

I'm sorry, I've let it slip the last week. You all no I am one four proppa grammer. I've put a cupple of posts up in the larst week wivout proof reading and it has annoyed me. I wil promiss to make sure that it is all going to improve again. It's too much.

Sorry Sarah!

Sidecar folk - fancy been on TV? I've been contacted by a TV production company who want to film a road going sidecar outfit (think Wallace and Grommitt style!) so they can talk about the principles of a sidecar cornering for a programme called "Science of Stupid" voiced by Richard Hammond.
