The "Steve Henshaw International Gold Cup" road races are set to be the highlight of this years fiftieth anniversary celebrations of the Auto 66 Club. One of the most exciting Sidecar races in the history of the Southern 100 was witnessed by thousands of fans who had spread themselves outaround the Billown Course on Championship Day 2016, Thursday 14th July.

The outright Sidecar lap record had stood to Nick Crowe and Dan Sayle since 2007, just shy of the 'magic' 100mph at 99.778mph, a time of2m 33.341 s.

In ideal conditions 19 Sidecar crews lined up on the grid on Castletown By-Pass ready for the challenge of eight hectic laps around the 4.25-milecourse - certainly not one for the faint hearted!

For the second successive year, Tim Reeves took victory in the Southern 100 Sidecar Championship and, together with Patrick Farrance, set a new outright lap record on Thursday afternoon of 100.749mph around the challenging Billown circuit.

The Team Klaffi Honda/F13K Cancer duo were part of a superb four-way battle for the lead with fellow World Champions Ben and Tom Birchall, John Holden/Andy Winkle and Dave Molyneux/Dan Sayle and although the latter retired at the end of lap three, the remaining three crews fought for supremacy.

Following their double win at Snetterton in the British championship on Sunday, Mansfield brothers Ben and Tom Birchall travelled directly to the Isle of Man where they took part in qualifying on Monday evening for the two sidecar races at the Southern 100 meeting and going on to take a second and third place in two thrilling races.
